We decided to take a trip to Chincoteague because we wanted to see the wild horses. Not being comfortable with boondocking yet, and because we wanted full-hook ups, we opted to stay in Chincoteague rather than staying at what we had heard was the more scenic Assateague National Seashore. We stayed at Pine Grove Campground situated on several acres a short distance outside of town. The campground caters to long-term site renters, and we found talking with some of the other campers to be interesting.
We had brought our bicycles and found the town to be very bike friendly. However, after getting a flat and not bringing our own repair kit (something we now always do), we could not find any bike repair shops, only bike rental shops. One bike rental place, the Chincoteague Bike Shop, was kind enough to lend us e-bikes to return to the campsite. We rented their e-bikes the next day, giving us a great opportunity to tour the area. This also gave us our first taste of riding e-bikes. We were able to see a few wild horses, although they were in the distance and behind a fence.
We enjoyed Chincoteague but found the area to be limited in what there is to see and do. A few days was definitely enough to explore the town and see the wild horses.
